Everything you need to know about Canada's only all-inclusive mountain resort — a year-round escape in one of North America's most spectacular landscapes.
There are ski resorts. There are all-inclusive resorts. And then there is Club Med Québec Charlevoix — a place that is, in the most literal sense, in a category of its own.
Perched on the slopes of Le Massif de Charlevoix with the St. Lawrence River sprawling below, this resort opened in December 2021 as Club Med's first North American mountain resort and the world's first year-round all-inclusive mountain resort. It sits in a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. It has the highest vertical drop east of the Rockies. And when you look down the mountain on a clear winter morning, the ski runs appear to drop all the way into the river — a view so cinematic that first-time guests frequently stop mid-run just to stare.
This guide covers everything — winter, summer, activities, accommodation, food, wellness, getting there, and the honest trade-offs.
The resort is located at 1 rue de la Montagne-Secrète in Petite-Rivière-Saint-François, in the Charlevoix region of Québec, on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River. It sits directly at the base and slopes of Le Massif de Charlevoix, one of the most storied ski mountains in eastern Canada.
Charlevoix is a region of extraordinary natural and cultural significance. Its dramatic landscape — rolling terrain, fjords, headlands, boreal forests, and river coves — was formed in part by the impact of a 350-million-year-old meteor. In 1989, UNESCO designated Charlevoix a World Biosphere Reserve.
The town of Baie-Saint-Paul, a vibrant arts community, is roughly 20 minutes away. Québec City — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — is approximately 90 minutes by car.
The closest major airport is Jean Lesage International Airport in Québec City (YQB), served by direct flights from Toronto, Montréal, Ottawa, Halifax, and several other Canadian cities, as well as seasonal routes from the US. From the airport, the resort is approximately a 1.5-hour drive along the scenic north shore of the St. Lawrence.
Alternatively, Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL) is a larger hub with more international connections, but adds roughly 2 additional hours of driving (~3 hours 45 minutes total).
Driving yourself is the most flexible option and recommended for summer guests planning to explore the region. In winter, Club Med arranges shuttle service from Québec City airport, available when booking packages. There is no public transit to the resort.
Club Med Québec Charlevoix was 10 years in the making and designed by a Québec architecture firm with deliberate intention: every design element reflects the land, the culture, and the people of Charlevoix and greater Québec.
The result is striking. The resort blends contemporary mountain architecture with deep references to Québec's First Nations heritage. Dream-catcher headboards, traditional materials, Indigenous color palettes, hanging canoes, and locally sourced art are woven throughout the interiors. Cathedral-like ceilings framed in natural materials, panoramic windows facing the river, and a warmth that feels genuinely earned rather than applied as a theme.
This is not a generic ski lodge that could be anywhere in the world. From the moment you arrive, you know you are in Québec.
The terrain caters to all levels: dedicated beginner areas, a robust intermediate network, and genuinely demanding expert terrain including a Triple Black Diamond trail. Guests access the mountain directly from the resort — true ski-in/ski-out convenience. A 12-person gondola carries skiers to the summit.
Not included: Spa treatments, optional off-resort excursions (dogsledding, Québec City tours), premium dining (Tomahawk prime rib and Charlevoix fondue at extra cost), and garage parking.
Club Med's ski instructors are consistently among the most praised elements of a Charlevoix winter stay. Small-group lessons cover all skill levels, from first-time beginners to advanced technique refinement. Guests who arrive as complete novices frequently leave as confident intermediate skiers after a week. Children's ski instruction is a particular strength — patient, encouraging instructors who make skiing fun.
One of the things that makes Club Med Québec Charlevoix genuinely unusual is its year-round operation. Most ski resorts shut down in spring and wait for snow. Charlevoix transforms.
The resort comprises 302 rooms and suites, all designed with the Indigenous-inflected aesthetic described above. Most offer views of the St. Lawrence River. Rooms come with private balconies, quality bedding, and the warm design language of the resort.
The Exclusive Collection Space includes suites on the upper floors with access to a dedicated 8th-floor lounge offering snacks and drinks. Exclusive Collection guests also receive priority restaurant and spa reservations, premium Wi-Fi, and concierge service.
A notable perk: ski lockers are located near the slope exit, allowing guests to leave their equipment at the mountain and walk back in regular clothes — deeply appreciated by any skier.
Dog-friendly option: The resort offers a pet-friendly accommodation program on specific room categories during select winter weeks (typically January through April). A relatively rare feature for a ski resort of this caliber. Pre-booking through a Club Med advisor is required.
Food at Club Med Québec Charlevoix is a genuine highlight — arguably the resort's second most-praised attribute after the skiing itself. More than 65% of fresh products are sourced locally, from Charlevoix and surrounding Québec regions.
The resort's main dining venue — a bright, generous buffet offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner with rotating menus built around Québécois flavors. Local charcuterie, artisanal cheeses, seasonal produce, and proper poutine are constants. Consistently among the most praised aspects of the resort experience.
A more intimate, elevated dining room offering an ultra-local experience built around Charlevoix's finest ingredients. The signature experiences are the Tomahawk prime rib and the Charlevoix fondue — both available at additional cost and both intensely popular. Superb views of the St. Lawrence.
Sits at the heart of Le Gourmet Lounge. Locally inspired cocktails, fine wines, and intimate lighting set the tone for evenings that tend to extend well past anyone's intended bedtime.
The resort partners with local producers for tasting excursions visiting the Fromagerie de la Famille Migneron, Hydromel de Charlevoix's honey wine operation, the Cidrerie et Vergers Pedneaults apple orchard and cider house, and the Chocolaterie du Village.
The G.O.s (Gentils Organisateurs) operate under a philosophy that has defined Club Med since 1950: every employee does multiple jobs, and the boundaries between "staff" and "entertainers" are deliberately dissolved. Your bartender mixes après-ski cocktails by day and performs aerial acrobatics in the evening show. The ski instructor who guided your child's first parallel turn takes the stage later as a dancer and acrobat.
Guest after guest describes the moment they notice this as a turning point in their stay — the realization that the resort is staffed not by service workers following scripts, but by genuinely multi-talented people who seem to love their jobs.
Nightly shows at Charlevoix combine Cirque du Soleil-style circus arts, comedy, music, and theatrical performance. The Saturday night circus show, where guests who have participated in aerial arts programs during the week may be invited to perform, is frequently described as one of the most emotionally memorable experiences of the entire trip.
The Club Med Spa by Sothys is designed around the Nordic wellness tradition. The spa features a hot and cold therapy pathway: a sequence of hot treatments (sauna, hammam, hot tubs) followed by cold immersion. The sauna has panoramic views of the St. Lawrence River. Outdoor hot tubs overlook the mountain.
Important note: Access to the spa's thermal circuits requires either a booked treatment or a facilities day pass — it is not included in the base all-inclusive package. Worth budgeting for if wellness is a priority.
The indoor heated pool is included for all guests and operates year-round.
Club Med Charlevoix was named a Women's Health Best Family-Friendly Hotel for Health & Wellness (2025 Travel Awards). Age-specific clubs run throughout each day:
Families describe Charlevoix as one of the very few vacation destinations where both parents and children are genuinely, equally well-served.
Less suited for: expert skiers seeking enormous backcountry terrain or heli-skiing, and guests focused purely on budget skiing.
Winter (December–April) is the primary season. Snow conditions are excellent from late November onward, with artificial snowmaking ensuring reliable coverage. April skiing — with warming temperatures and lighter crowds — has become a favorite for late-season guests.
Summer (June–September) offers mountain biking, hiking, river culture, and warm-weather wellness. July and August bring whale-watching season.
Fall (September–November) is Charlevoix's most visually spectacular season. The foliage transforms the Laurentian mountainsides into amber, gold, and crimson, framing the river in a display that rivals anything in New England. The resort's Elevation Celebrations programming makes fall a particularly curated time to visit.
There is no other resort in North America quite like Club Med Québec Charlevoix. It occupies a geographical and conceptual space that no competitor has matched: an all-inclusive, year-round mountain resort in a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, with the highest vertical drop east of the Rockies, farm-to-table cuisine from one of Canada's finest artisanal food regions, circus-arts entertainment, and a design vocabulary rooted in First Nations culture and Québécois tradition.
The ski experience is genuinely exceptional. The food is exceptional. The G.O. culture is one of the most distinctive and memorable aspects of any resort stay in North America. And the views — down the mountain, across the river, towards the horizon — are among the finest you will find anywhere on a ski hill.
If you are looking for a ski vacation that is more than a ski vacation — one that leaves you with a sense of place, a sense of culture, and a sense that the mountain, the river, and the people serving you are all part of a single, irreplaceable experience — Club Med Québec Charlevoix is worth every dollar.
